Each box includes hose and wire for mounting. Boxes come with pre-drilled holes to make installation easy and tree-safe. Wood shavings are provided for specific species.
✅ Step 1: Choose a Suitable Location & Tree
For the best chance of success, nest boxes should be installed high enough to keep wildlife safe from ground-based threats such as pets and human activity. Choose a position that is out of direct, harsh sunlight and sheltered from extreme weather such as strong winds and heavy rain. A spot with morning sun and afternoon shade is ideal to help regulate internal temperatures. Find a healthy tree — we recommend one with a fork, like the example shown on our homepage. A fork helps provide extra support and stability for the nest box. Nest boxes should be installed as high as safely possible, while ensuring the installer can work securely and confidently.
Do not attempt installation at heights that require unsafe climbing practices. If needed, seek assistance from a qualified arborist or professional installer.
✅ Step 2: Thread the Wire
Before installing: You may need to cut down the wire or hose depending on the diameter of the tree you choose but ensure enough slack for tree growth. Feed the supplied wire through both the pre-drilled holes in the back of the box. Create a loop at one end of the wire, twisting to secure.
✅ Step 3: Add the Hose
Slide the hose over the opposite end of wire to protect the tree from damage. Trim off any excess hose if needed so it fits neatly around the back of the tree.
✅ Step 4: Secure the Box
Hold the box in position on the tree. Bring the wire around the back of the tree into your existing loop, twisting or creating another loop. Ensure it’s not tight as shown in our homepage photo.
